Cream’s Book Review

I just finished reading ‘ONE DAY I SAW A BLACK KING’ by: J.D. MASON (I wonder if we are related?)
When I first began to read this book I almost put it down because it didn’t get interesting as soon as I thought it would and it wasn’t like most books I’ve been reading lately where there’s a hot detailed sex scene before you get out of chapter one. This is the type of book I started reading in high school, but there were not enough black writers to choose from.
This book made you think. It made you connect with the characters. Connie could have been me if things in my life had turned out differently. And John King is that type of fine specimen of man that seems to take my heart and turn it into mashed potatoes.
Yeah they had some difficult lives but they found each other deciding to make a life together. I know this is fiction but it gives me hope that one day I’ll be so lucky to have a love like theirs. Connie finally opens her heart and lets John in after years of being stuck in her world of sorrow and pain. She even opens her heart to her daughter that her sister is raising.
John on the other hand, finally stopped running although he wasn’t planning to. He simply knew that he’d get the urge to uproot himself and he’d follow it simply because he loved the open road and traveling to different places. It was comforting to know that even someone like him could put down roots.
I really enjoyed the ending, it makes me wish there was a sequel just to find out the last part of the puzzle. I’m guessing that John’s uncle was really his daddy or the letter was a fake.
I recommend this book to anyone that has given up on love or think they will never find it.
