I've been looking after the Style & Fashion section here on Mochacity for a minute now, letting the European fashionista in me out. Here are some of my past and present thoughts of what I think is hot and what most def is not.

Jessica Simpson Swimwear - Miami Catwalk Show Video
Posted by allhoney at Jul-29-2007 at 12:39 AM PST

Jessica Simpson is officially adding swimwear to her line of products, which include shoes, handbags, perfume, cosmetics and clothing .

She unveiled her new line of beach wear at Miami Fashion Week a few weeks ago and as a celebrity line I like a few peices I see, but Im not wild about them. The one I posted is alright but that’s it, the video below will give you the catwalk glimpse.

My main confusion stems from the patterns which are not the prettiest out there. Way too much red, white, and blue. And all the frills and tiny skirts? .... Must be a southern belle thing.

Check out the video highlights from Jessica's swimwear line in Miami below.

Gwen Stefani Suing Forever 21

Gwen Stefani is suing the retail chain Forever 21 for trademark infringement.

In papers filed in LA Federal Court, reps for the singer's Harajuku Lovers line claim Forever 21 is marketing, promoting and selling products featuring a design "virtually indistinguishable" from Harajuku's heart/box logo.

The clothing chain is alleged to have "changed a couple of words in the Heart/Box Trademark, which are inconspicuous and likely to go unnoticed by a consumer." The Forever 21 designs use the same logo but call their line "Forever Love." Earlier this year Diane Von Ferstenberg sued Forever21 for trademark infringement as well.

Another One Bites The Dust - Vibe Vixen Magazine Folds

Another day, another Black magazine folds.

Vibe Vixen is the latest publication to fall under the witches spell. After two years and some change, Vibe Vixen will no longer produce their hard copy magazine but will continue their presence online. Being a fan of the magazine this saddens me as I loved the articles and it truly represented alot of the urban fashion that I enjoy so much

The official press release says :

"Less than two weeks after being named CEO of Vibe Media Group, Steve Aaron announced Vibe would fold Vibe Vixen, the female counterpart to urban music and lifestyle magazine Vibe.

Vixen will cease as a regularly published title with the August/September issue and starting in the fourth quarter, the company will begin publishing Vixen as special issues focusing on urban culture themes. The company hasn’t determined the frequency for the specials, a company rep said. Vixen also will continue to maintain a Web site.''

In a press release, Aaron said there would be 'some' layoffs. The rep would not make executives available for further comment.

Vixen launched in February 2005 as a twice-a-year title with a circ of 425,000 and upped the frequency to six times this year. R.I.P to a somewhat loved glossy publication!

Viktor Viktoria Online Shopping!

I think we all agree that if you spend any amount of time online, you will see that there is a limitless amount of traders who utilise online stores to get their name and brand out there.

There are some that are truly unique and will always get the custom, but its rare you see the little man get his or her dues when competing with the bigger brands.

I think I just may have made a breakthrough in finding a good online store in Viktor Viktoria. Their motto is 'Don't Copy Me' and thats going to be hard to do as their website seems to be a one stop shop.

Stocking an array of labels that covers a gamut of age ranges, emotions and tastes, labels include Soundgirl, Kenzie Girl, Effies Heart, Catch A Fire Clothing, Mash Culture Lab, Tulle, Alternative Apparel and B.B Dakota and thats not even including the major designers such as Babyphat and Akademiks!

It's unusual that you can mix up your sophisticated or trashy all in one hit lol .. they seem to have created a boutique for the WOMAN or MAN with her/his own style from shoes to dresses, jewellery to menswear, accessories, undergarments .. you want it, they got it and I like that its all under one url.

Check them out!

The New Dereon Ad .. Where the Catwalk meets the Sidewalk?!?

Oh Lordy - check out the latest few 'House of Dereon' ads below - yes the not so haute clothing line from Beyonce (pictured with her sister Solange) and her mom Tina Knowles which is still making the rounds (this ad comes from the latest issue (april '07) and (july '07) commerical.

I'm sorry but it all looks so junky - i think if anyone came up to me and told me they were wearing 'House of Dereon' i would totally be snickering under my breath!

Don't get me wrong - you all know i'm a huge fan of Bee but I have come to the conclusion I simply cannot deal with Dereon at all - girlfriend needs to toss in the towel! i would love to hear from fans of the clothes .. where is the allure in what you see below?

The dresses I do see in the ads remind me alot of the Rocawear dresses which isn't a good look. PS get a load of their tagline where the sidewalk and catwalk meet - are you kidding me?!?

April 07 Ad

July 07 Ad

H.O.D Velvet Scoop Neck Jacket .. hmmm

The not so hideous Trump L Oeil Tank ... but would you pay $55 for it?

High Waisted Heaven or Just Wasted on Us?

So this trend of high waisted jeans has been around for a minute now, and though it initially seemed ridiculous beyond words to have your body mis-preportioned by clothes like that, it doesn't seem to be going away.

I'm not saying I will ever be going out to buy myself some slacks that button up just below my bustline but I'm thinking that perhaps I've been brainwashed, because a few celebs lately have been able to pull the look off ... or have they?

Let's take a look:

Ciara favoring suspenders to balance the high waist with a short shirt

Beyonce is gorgeous, yes, but are her jeans? She rocks a high waist with what looks like a House of Dereon teeshirt and also some suspenders

J. Lo keeps it sassy and sexy in sleek skinny high waisted jeans and stiletto

Genevieve Jones going for the sailor look

And Nicole Richie takes a risk in Sass & Bide high waisted cut offs with a tank tucked in. Interesting!

Skintight Delight - The Herve Leger Bandage Dress
Posted by allhoney at Jul-23-2007 at 3:59 PM PST

Flicking through random hip hop and RnB video's for listening pleasure, I spotted alot of hot outfits and wonder who is making those dresses that many celebrities such as Rihanna, Solange and more recently Ciara have been wearing? Ciara has one on in her new video ''Can't Leave Him Alone ''...

So I investigate and find that every single one of the dresses I was interested in and is shown below is a vintage Herve Leger.

Since all these hip hip honies are donning his threads, I figure I should give you all a bit of history behind the skintight sizzling style.

Herve Leger (shown above left) rose to prominance in the 80's and 90's after working at Fendi working with Karl Lagerfeld, designing for Lanvin Haute Couture, and designing pret-a-porter for Diane von Furstenberg. He started his line in 1985, and launched his signature 'bandage' dresses years later.

About his dresses, he said, "One day in a factory I found some bands that were headed for the garbage. They gave me the idea of taking those bands and putting them next to one another as one does making a hat." And thats where the trend started and took off!

Hollywood hotties have discovered his vintage threads and are now rocking them on every red carpet and upping their music video game with them on hip hop channels. Newer designers have also been inspired by his designs, and some, such as Proenza Schouler, borrowed the bandaged look for their Spring 2007 shows as worn by Rihanna below.

If you have the figure and the bank account, you cant do yourself better justice than breathing in and wearing the hell out of the Bandage dress, at a cool $1500 + you know it would the main attraction wherever you go.

Cyndi Crawford, the original bandage dress wearer, since then its been adopted by the likes of ..

Solange .. who is wearing a fuschia one ..

Rihanna .. who is wearing a pink one ..

Lindsay Lohan in a Leger diamond halter dress retailing at $1485

And Kim Kardashian has a Herve Leger in every color of the rainbow.

Stars & Louis Vuitton

Is it just me or does EVERYONE love Louis Vuitton.

The designer label is something I have had an obsession with for years. Its crafted well, leather so soft to the touch and its staple is my favorite color of MOCHA, so there was a natural lean twards the brand for me from the start.

Whats good to see though is that my obsession is shared by the masses, and even more so the privileged as shown below with everyone from T.I, to Posh n Becks and Kanye draping themselves in some form of Louis luxury.

There are many sought after things in this world but that so many would gravitate to one specific one shows me there is something real special about Vuitton, to the extent that people dont mind having the same thing as the next person which is unheard lol. Luckily the range is wide and is constantly adding to its collection, as with the shiny and bright Mirroire bag and more recently on Kelly Rowland the denim LV shorts.

Enjoy the slide below showcasing all that is celebrity and all that is Louis, and if you ever have the means to buy yourself that something special. Point your loved one or saved pennies towards a Louis Vuitton counter!
